Recent meta-analyses and systematic reviews demonstrate that PRP can improve the clinical outcome and reduce the rate of failed healing (“retears”) in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. In contrast, platelet-rich fibrin has been shown to have no benefit in improving tendon healing rates or functional outcomes.

The suspicion of infection is derived from clinical symptoms of pain and stiffness, laboratory exam of inflammatory markers, radiological studies, and microbiological cultures and detection methods.

David Kovacevic, MD, Chief of Shoulder, Elbow, and Sports Medicine at New York-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital, recently published in the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (JSES). His study titled “Performance of PROMIS Global-10 compared with legacy instruments in patients with shoulder arthritis” determined the correlation between the PROMIS Global-10 and several legacy patient-reported outcome measures to validate its overall performance as well as usefulness in patients with shoulder arthritis. Based on the study's findings, Dr. Kovacevic does not recommend using the PROMIS Global-10 for patients suffering from shoulder arthritis.
